The other day Hiki-chan and I wondered around Sangenjaya. I live very close to Sangenjaya, but besides riding my bike there to meet with my Editors for a Japanese book I am Art Directing, or to pop into one of my favourite bakeries, I rarely wonder around or lunch there. Hiki-chan and I had lunch at Rain On The Roof, a cute cafe run by the same people as Mois cafe in Shimokitazawa. We wondered around the back streets nearby the cafe, taking pictures on our instagram app (addictive!). There were lots of cute details to shoot, including some kind of Australian bar? and a cute outdoor bar that looked like it could have been better placed in Okinawa! But what I enjoyed most was the Hong Kong style lane ways! I really felt as though I was living in Asia.

Sangenjaya has a really lovely vibe, is close to Shibuya, and is just one bus ride away to Shimokitazawa. Better still, there is a giant Seiyu there for your one stop home making needs! Pop on over on your mamachari and stay for an afternoon beer. I hear there is a bike rental shop under the station where you can rent mamacharis for ¥200 for the day! Waou!

My Japanese Craft Idol!

One of my favourite things about living in Tokyo is having instant access to the amazing range of craft and stationery DIY books. I have every single craft book by Japanese craft book author Udagawa Kazumi-san. These books come to the park with me, they come on the train with me, I read them in the sun, in bed, and they are jam packed with post it notes for inspiration.

You can imagine then, how I was jumping around with excitement in my mini-me Tokyo apartment when Udagawa-san invited me to her house for a craft afternoon! Waou!!!

We made such a mess!

Udagawa-san's mizutama paper collection! Amazing!

Udagwa-san taught me how to make these envelope folders to house our receipts. She even has multi colured eyelets! oh my!

Some delicious fruits tart (I love how it's plural in Japan...fruits juice...peanuts butter...) from Kichijoji as an afternoon treat.

Some beautiful handmade folders made by my Japanese craft idol!

If you fancy making some of Udagawa-sans projects, be sure to pick up her English book. Or have a go at making this folder from our pictures.

It's raining in Tokyo today. This is pretty much all I saw on my way to the supermarket from under my umbrella.

My first roses from my Tokyo mini potted garden since the earthquake. My roses didn't particularly like it when I went back to Sydney and didn't water them, but they are back to a healthy state now. It makes me smile.

They were so pretty I was too excited to set the table for dinner.

Hello Sandwich Tokyo Stationery A3 Poster

It might not come as a shock to you that I am in love with all things 'Stationery' in Tokyo. So it was a no-brainer when it came to creating a mini zine for the Sydney MCA Zine Fair this month!

The new Hello Sandwich Tokyo Stationery mini-zine / poster is a little A3 poster which folds into a A5 zine.

One side is fluoro orange gingham (It's actually a photograph of my fog linen luncheon mat) which you could use as cute wrapping paper!

You could also use the paper as a book cover!

And the other side contains the Hello Sandwich Tokyo Stationery Shop Guide and 3 x Stationery craft projects which I hope you will enjoy making!

The mini zine poster will be launched at the Sydney MCA Zine Fair on Sunday May 22nd (if my EMS package arrives in time - fingers crossed!) so I hope you can pop on down to the MCA and pick up a copy. My dear friend Beatrice will be minding the Hello Sandwich Tokyo Table booth as I won't be able to fly to Sydney for the event :(
