Japanese Magazine

Hello Sandwiches,

I just had a Japanese magazine come to my apartment to do a profile photo shoot for an upcoming zakka / handmade mook they are publishing. The staff from the editorial team gave me this giant bag of cute fireworks as a little present along with a stack of books! The photographer was Italian - so interesting to have three languages spoken at the shoot!

Handmade Stationery Workshop at Shibaura House

Some pics from tonight's Handmade Stationery Workshop at Shibaura House! It was a lot of fun! Thank you so much for everyone who came along!


I hope you can come to the next one. We have the workshops once a month on the first Wednesday of each month and the next workshop is a tote bag making workshop on the 7th September.

Hello Sandwichさんによるワークショップ。第3回は、ハンドメイドトートバッグです。かわいい裏地を貼ったシンプルなトートバッグを飾り付けます。ハンドステッチや、布のコラージュやリボン、ポンポン、ビーズ、ボタンなど、いろんなアイテムでデコレーションしましょう。エコバッグにしたり、通学時に本を入れたりと、何にでも使えるバッグです。このワークショップで学んだスキルがあれば、おうちで作ってお友だちにもプレゼントできます。あなただけのユニークなトートバッグを一緒につくりましょう！

In this workshop you will learn how to make a simple tote bag complete with cute lining. Using hand stitching, we will decorate our tote bags with assorted trims, ribbons, fabric collage, pom poms, beading and buttons. The tote bag could be used as an eco-bag for shopping, carrying books or as an everyday bag. Using the skills you have learnt in the workshop, you could continue to make more tote bags at home and give to friends as presents! Let's have fun making a unique tote bag together!

Handmade Stationery Hello Sandwich Workshop!

Hello Sandwiches!

It's time for another Hello Sandwich workshop at Shibaura House!
I hope you can come along.

At the Hello Sandwich Handmade Stationery Workshop we will be making out own super cute envelopes lined with patterned wax paper and decorating them with seals, labels and stamps. We will also make our own original letter writing set which can be photocopied for future use! And we'll make a cute fold out photo / letter envelope holder with four sweet little pockets! Let’s enjoy the return to hand written letters!

Hello Sandwichさんによるワークショップ。季節に応じたテーマでかわいいものをつくります。
第2回は、ハンドメイドステーショナリー。好きな形とサイズの封筒と便せんを作ることができます。 いろんな種類の紙を選んで、マスキングテープやスタンプ、シールなどでデコレーションすれば、 あなただけのオリジナルレターセットができあがり！ Hello Sandwichさんと会話をすれば、英語の勉強にもなっちゃいます。

Japanese Craft Book (sneak peek!)

This is just about my dream come true! At the moment I'm making a craft book with a Japanese Publishing company.
Today we had a 7 hour meeting at the Art Directors house...photographing lace and buttons, styling a pile of pencils, selecting collages, choosing colour ways, drinking coffee, eating fancy marshmallows, using the Art Directors office-sized printer (um, how cool to live in Tokyo and have your own office-sized laser printer in your home!), and having the most lovely time ever. I'd be so happy if I could just continue to make craft books in Japan forever~! Our book will be released later this year and I really hope you will like it.

Editions de Paris Mook

Hello Sandwiches!

The mook I designed for Japanese company Editions de Paris is now on sale! It's a lovely collection of cute and colourful Paris interiors. It was so much fun working on. You can pick it up in the 'mook' section in bookshops and newsagents in Japan. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Enoshima Island

On our day trip to Enoshima Beach we also walked across to Enoshima Island. It was so lovely walking through the historic streets up to the shrine, keeping cool under the giant trees and taking a rest at the lookout. They even have a giant escalator if the walk up is too much for you. The island is worth a little visit if you're at Enoshima Beach.

Enoshima Beach

We took the Odakyu-sen to Enoshima Beach today. Such fun!

Asahi and Enoshima Beer on the beach.
Pop-up summer beach restaurants.
Tatami restaurants on the beach.
Edamame at tatami beach restaurants.
Cute shell necklaces for ¥250.
Boys with hairdryers on the beach.
Girls drawing in their eyebrows on the beach.
Water pistols.
Dance stages on the beach.
Rental deck chairs.
Film crews.
Volleyball on brown sand.
Taco restaurants with a beach view.
Kakigouri.
Earthquake and Tsunami warning signs everywhere.

The beaches here are so so different to Australian beaches! I could not stop saying 'omoshiroi!' and I took a million photos!

If you come to Tokyo in summer pop on down to Enoshima beach. If you take the number 12 bus to Zushi you can find a less crowded beach ;)

Wa - Tokyo is so much fun!
