Hello Sandwiches!

Happy Weekend (almost)!

The lovely team at Vogue.co.jp took me out to lunch today and invited me to blog (in Japanese - eeep! but with an English translation!) over at vogue.co.jp as a 'Style Blogger'. I'm so excited!

We are still preparing and setting up the blog but The Hello Sandwich VOGUE Japan blog will be live in just over a week!

Hope you have a lovely weekend Sandwiches! I'm going to see some exhibitions with some friends and I'm also helping out an artist with her craft workshop! I will take some pics for you.

The Tokyo Marathon was on today. A very popular event. I applied to run in the 10km race but selection is via lottery and I missed out :( My last race was so much fun and I desperately wanted to run on the Tokyo streets, but it looks like I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for 2012. I went along anyway to cheer on the 33,000 lucky people who got to run today. I then proceeded to eat enough thai food for two people washed down with a gigantic beer. (It's a good thing I'm not in training!)

When I am in training however, I like to use runkeeper. If you're into running outdoors I can highly recommend it. The super amazing Joseph Tame also uses it. If you don't know about Joseph, have a look here. He is amazeballs! And for those of you who follow my twitter - I apologise for so many tweets while watching his live ustream today!

You can see some of the crazy characters that ran today here.

To all the runners - おつかれさま!

I've always loved seeing the creative workspaces of others! Kit just did a lovely post about inspiring studio spaces. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a work space like these!
My work space is quite mini-me Tokyo size, but the lovely team at Nylon Korea Magazine have featured it in their new issue (top workspace above).

This is the English translation:

1.Introduce yourself please (your name and occupation)
Hello. My name is Ebony Bizys and I am Tokyo based freelance graphic (print and book) designer. I also run a blog called Hello Sandwich

2.What do you do very first when you seat in front of your desk?
I always make myself a coffee from my espresso machine and turn on my Macbook pro to check my emails and some favourite blogs.

3.How long do you spend your time on the desk per a day?
Eeep! I usually spend quite a long time, about 12 hours.

4.What do you work on the desk?
I work on freelance graphic design, writing my blog, making zines, emailing, drawing, collaging, reading magazines, scrapbooking, writing letters and chatting on skype. My desk is also where I dispatch all of my Hello Sandwich Zine orders.

5.Two things that must be on your desk.
My laptop, and some cute masking tape. I also love to have fresh flowers if I can, to keep me inspired.

6.Favorite stationery brand

Tokyo Plastic Bags

It's been a while since I've posted about rubbish in Tokyo. I just adore these patterned Tokyo plastic bags. Polka dot, checkered and musical note graphic...even the plastic bags in Tokyo are cute!

Those who know Hello Sandwich well know that I have a deep interest in recycling and re-using (mama-sando might call this 'hoarding', but each to their own!) There are so many uses for these cute bags. You could make crochet plastic bag vessels like those made by Knitty Gritty Loopy for the We Craft This City exhibition at Sydney's Object Gallery.

Or you could make a plastic bag bow from the Hello Sandwich Gift Wrapping Zine.

No matter what you use them for, they are definitely too cute to go straight into the bin.

A special thanks to Hiki-chan who suggested visiting Tofukiji Temple while in Kyoto. To be honest, I thought I'd be okay if I didn't see any temples this time in Kyoto, having visited most of them a few times before, but this temple was so beautiful and relaxing, I'm so happy I could experience it. It was a nice break too, from the 1000 of cafes I wanted to visit!

You can see how beautiful Tofukuji looks in Autumn here. (While you listen you might also like to break out into your best Rhumba like dramatic latin dancesport dance like I may, or may not have).

Happy weekend Sandwiches!
